Women of the water. The coastal nomads I call my friends. These are a select few of the incredible women that chase a life on the coast. Water defines our lives here. We fish in it, we swim in it, we climb mountains to find it. We surf in it. We protect it.
This week, I asked a few friends if I could take their portrait for this project.
This is Women of the Water.
Our freshwater and our oceans merge into each other, providing life for the salmon, orcas, herring, grey whales and every other species we encounter in the water. We live in a country with an abundance of freshwater, and a community surrounded by salt water. Most places aren’t as fortunate. Preserve your water, consume responsibly when you travel, and respect how fortunate we are to have access to clean water for drinking and recreation. Water for all.
I’m constantly inspired by these women of the water, who chase a life powered by water. Surfers, photographers, biologists, and artists. These are a few women of the water whom I love.
Photographed this week in Tofino and Ucluelet.
